Load Disaggregation...?

Load disaggregation means breaking down total energy use in buildings into specific parts, like heating, cooling, lighting, and appliances. This helps building owners see where energy is used and find ways to save energy and money. It allows for better management of energy consumption without needing expensive equipment, making it easier to meet sustainability goals.

The ADRENALIN project aims to facilitate a digital transformation of the existing building stock. Innovators from around the world have tackled two big challenges: load disaggregation and HVAC Smart Controls. These competitions invited participants to develop solutions that can make a real difference in how buildings consume and manage energy.

Our main focus has been on the HVAC Smart Controls challenge, where participants designed intelligent algorithms to make heating and cooling systems more efficient and responsive to external factors, such as fluctuating energy prices. We believe these innovations can help create more sustainable and cost-effective solutions for commercial buildings

HVAC Smart Controls

HVAC Smart Controls are advanced systems that manage heating, ventilation, and air conditioning in buildings. They use data and smart algorithms to adjust the systems based on factors like energy prices and occupancy. This improves comfort while using less energy. By optimizing how these systems work, HVAC Smart Controls help buildings become more energy-efficient and support a sustainable energy supply.

The winners — three teams from each challenge — have been announced, and the first portion of the prize money is on its way. Now, we're entering the next phase: knowledge transfer. This kicks off in early November with presentations from the winning teams, during which they'll share their solutions with us and the broader community.

Jon Åkerström, Chief Products and Business Development Officer at Kiona, shared his thoughts:

At Kiona, we prioritize continuous development to ensure our solutions evolve at the very front of technology. The ADRENALIN competitions have provided valuable ideas and insights for our product roadmap. By learning from the results of these innovations, we have an opportunity to further improve our offer to our partners and customers, driving smarter and more sustainable operations.

Stay tuned for updates as we enter the knowledge transfer phase in November, where we will share insights from the winning teams!
