We're now looking for a Senior Software Engineer – Backend who wants to contribute to this mission by building robust, scalable backend solutions, and by using AI as a natural part of software development.
About the role
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Kiona, you contribute through strong technical execution while also being a trusted, constructive team member. You'll deliver complex backend features, modernise existing solutions, and participate in architectural discussions and shape the technical direction for backend systems, ensuring scalable, maintainable, and high‑quality results.
You’ll actively use AI tools to improve productivity, code quality, and solution design, and collaborate closely with product, engineering, and other stakeholders to align technical work with product goals. Solid engineering practices, performance considerations, and secure coding are treated as first‑class concerns.
You’ll be part of a distributed development team working across Norway, Sweden, and Lithuania, in an international environment where English is the primary working language. You'll also support and guide less experienced engineers and contribute to continuously improving development practices across the team.

You are
We are looking for someone who;
- Has strong experience with backend development, primarily using .NET / C#
- Actively uses AI tools in the development process and helps drive good engineering practices
- Has experience maintaining and modernising legacy systems in complex environments, across different technologies and paradigms
- Is solution‑oriented, pragmatic, and able to translate business needs into sound technical solutions
- Communicates well across technical and non‑technical roles
- Is reliable, confident in technical discussions, and supportive of others
