<p>We are constantly improving our Platform with new features, add-ons, and updates to existing ones. In the last months, we have released many new updates to Edge, our self-learning AI engine and cloud service.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-sensor-selection">1. Sensor selection</h2>



<p>Selecting the best reference sensors to help with building optimization and achieve a stable indoor climate for tenants can be time-consuming. A building is very dynamic, and indoor temperatures are influenced by many factors that should often be ignored when optimizing the heating system.</p>



<p>To help with this task, we now introduce an automatic selection of reference sensors. This continuously evaluates the temperature characteristics of all sensors and selects the most suitable ones for optimization.</p>



<p>The feature can be turned on or off, depending on your needs. When off, you can still manually select which sensors are used for reference, like before.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-peak-control-steering-visualization">2. Peak Control steering visualization</h2>



<p>Our Peak Control reduces power loads by balancing the heat in your building in advance. This is done by proactively adding heat before a peak and avoiding energy use during the expensive peaks in the distribution. To illustrate how the steering works, we have introduced a graph showing how the load shifts in time steering visualization.</p>



<p>That way, you can see more clearly when the heat is added, and energy is avoided according to the temperature peaks.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-export-of-alarm-cards">3. Export of alarm cards</h2>



<p>Alarm cards are a great way to aggregate and emphasise issues in your portfolio. We have now introduced the option to export all active alarms from the cards to Excel. This makes it easier to work with current issues and plan for actions in a structured way with tools you already use.</p>

<p>Sometimes, you need to quickly reach a specific building and might not know how the portfolio is structured. To improve the experience and make this easier, we have introduced a search field in the building tree. Simply write the name of the building, and it will appear immediately.</p>

<p>To make it easier to find reports in Edge Insights, we have added a search and improved the presentation of available reports and your personal favourites.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-6-new-edge-app">6. New Edge app</h2>



<p>We have a new Edge app ready for download. The Edge app lets you monitor and control your connected buildings with your mobile phone. You can stay on top of deviations and remote-control temporary heating adjustments. You can also get real-time data on temperature and humidity and monitor efficiency with real-time building performance.</p>



<p>It is directly connected to the Edge platform, and you can log in by using the same e-mail and password that you use on your Edge device.</p>

<p>We have developed a new feature that enables users to export the alarm history for any plant in the Operation Center.</p>



<p>We are constantly working to improve our Platform and are now happy to launch a new feature in IWMAC: Alarm history export. This feature lets you export and analyse the data with other sources in your favourite spreadsheet or data analysis tool.</p>

<p>View what the alarms look like over time: When did the alarm go off, when did the support/responsible respond, and how long was the total lead time of the different alarms? The alarm list can help discuss a possible breakdown and compensation with the refrigeration supplier. This feature is a great time saver for users, as exporting the alarm history has previously been a hands-on work by copying and pasting.</p>

<p>Many partners and customers throughout Europe work with our solutions daily. As a user of any system or solution, it is common to miss that one feature that would improve the service. Given that, we thought there must be plenty of good ideas for improving <a href="https://kiona.com/kiona-platform/">our platform</a> within our customer group. In addition to our own developed ideas for improvement, we were convinced that ideas from our users would also strengthen our solutions.&nbsp;</p>





<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-idea-portal-goes-live-nbsp">The Idea Portal goes live&nbsp;</h2>



<p>With that in mind, "<a href="http://kiona.ideas.aha.io/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Idea Portal</a>" was introduced in 2023. We created the portal to be easy to use and open for all users with a Kiona ID. Once signed in, you can submit new ideas for a selected product. Our workflow makes it easy to follow the status of your idea. And, you can comment or vote on ideas – whether it is your own or someone else's. No matter how big or small the idea, we promise that it will be treated with respect and that all ideas will be valued based on facts and data according to our well-defined product development process.</p>

<p>It is crucial to have an efficient workflow to make this function work. We created a thorough workflow to make it easier for us to work with and for our users to follow their ideas through the different stages of the workflow.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>We go through our idea portal weekly. When reviewing ideas, we give them an initial score and ensure they contain enough information to understand and grasp what they are about. Our goal is to leave the initial stage <em>Needs review </em>as soon as possible, and our target is within two weeks.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>Every week, we choose the three top ideas with the status of <em>Future consideration</em> per segment; Building management, Energy management, and Retail and refrigeration—and decide to investigate them further.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>These ideas get the status <em>Gathering insights </em>where our product managers investigate them in more detail and determine if they should be developed.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>If the idea can be achieved with existing functionality, it is set to <em>Already exists.</em> We have a set strategy for our platform, and if an idea is not a good fit for our strategy, it will be set to <em>Will not implement. </em> </p>



<p>All ideas that could be developed get the status <em>Likely to implement</em>. Once every month, our roadmap team reviews this list and selects the highest-ranked ideas to be developed. After this stage, we decide to if they should be placed on our roadmap and set it to  <em>Planning to implement</em>, but no work has begun yet.</p>



<p>When an idea has passed the above stages, it will be set to <em>Under development</em>, and last but not least, it will be set to <em>Released </em>and will soon be available on the platform. </p>

<p>Since the launch of our idea portal in 2023, we have received more than 120 ideas for improvement from our partners and customers. Eight ideas were sent to production, and over 300 idea votes were added.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>So, there is no reason to wait if you have an idea to improve your work and our products – keep the great ideas coming.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Energinet provides a convenient way to import meter data through its REST API. Through the API, you can send meter data directly into the system. We support many third-party software where we collect meter data from their APIs – including data from utility companies or other system suppliers. Energinet is capable of handling meter data from various sources. We consolidate all the data into a single central location, providing a unified perspective and the same look and feel.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Now, we have made sending data to Energinet via API easier than ever by letting users set it up themselves.  </p>



<p>You can now create API imports directly in Energinet, just as you could previously create e-mail imports. Generate your API tokens directly in the interface and decide which areas they should be valid for.   </p>



<p>You will find the API import in the Settings menu. You need to be a top-level admin user to create an API token.&nbsp;</p>

Web Port

<p>Web Port's scripting engine can be used to solve special requirements that can't be handled using standard process pictures. Blockly also supports pre-made blocks that interact with Kiona APIs like spot electricity prices.</p>



<p>Not everyone is familiar with programming and scripting, making it challenging to get started. As a solution, we have included support for Blockly in the scripting editor, allowing users to create scripts using puzzle pieces.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-how-does-it-work">How does it work?</h2>



<p>Blockly uses visual blocks, or puzzle pieces if you wish, that link together to make writing code more manageable and visually more apparent. It can also be customized to generate code in any textual programming language. </p>



<p>The scripts are created by connecting blocks, each representing logic or a more extensive functionality. The editor works by dragging and dropping an interface from a block library to a workspace, which is then saved and used to generate the actual code. Blockly is currently available for Call, Looped, and Triggered scripts. This means you can customize your project design directly in the web interface to create toolbars, popups, text, graphics, and image buttons.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-a-clear-vision">A clear vision</h2>



<p>When working with Blockly, having a clear vision or goal of what you want the system to do and what result you want to get from the code, is essential.&nbsp;</p>



<p>A perfect example of when to use Blockly is for spot prices. You can program the system so that when the spot price reaches a specific limit, the system will turn off a pump to reduce the costs. You can decide if the code should run temporarily, or you can make it repeatable daily, weekly, or monthly.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-simplified-scripting-with-blockly">Simplified scripting with Blockly</h2>



<p>Use Blockly to get started quickly with scripting in Web Port. Use the puzzle pieces to create control logic or presentations with custom reports. Blockly also supports readymade blocks for interacting with Kiona APIs, such as spot electricity prices. With scripts, you can also take advantage of the tag standard to filter out tags that match your needs. You can then use the tags for exports or presentations without connecting every tag manually.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Scripting can be used both for reporting and to create automated background processing. Since not everyone knows programming and scripting, it might be a bit of a challenge to get started. For that reason, Web Port has implemented support for Blockly as part of the scripting editor, which gives the option to build scripts using puzzle pieces.</p>

<p><strong>Picture this;</strong> You have a property stock of 140,000 m<sup>2 </sup>spread over 30 properties. Now, imagine controlling all third-party applications data, technical equipment, and systems from these properties, while at the same time, you can control the indoor climate and optimize energy use.</p>



<p><strong>This is possible thanks to seamless navigation.</strong></p>



<p>Seamless navigation gives the user the possibility to connect buildings in Edge with process pictures in Web Port. This allows for the user to move smoothly between platforms. From the helicopter-view of the complete building-portfolio in Edge, down to the more specific building-view in Web Port, and the other way around. </p>



<p>Combining this with Single-Sign-On gives the user a seamless experience and intuitive workflow.</p>

By investing heavily in security measures, we strive to build a safe user environment and keep protecting sensitive data. A great example of this, is Single Sign-On (SSO).&nbsp;</p>





<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-additional-security"><strong>Additional security</strong></h2>



<p>With one login for all products, we are reducing the number of passwords you have to manage. Since you also can enable multi-factor authentication, this provides greater login security.&nbsp;</p>





<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-enterprise-security">1. Enterprise security</h3>



<p>The need for a high level of protection is in line with the new security situation in Europe that has deteriorated in 2022. At Kiona we have taken the following actions to reduce the attack surface:</p>

<li>Authentication is handled by an enterprise security level identity provider (ISO 27001 certified partner).</li>



<li>Enabled Single Sign-On between all Kiona products, utilizing modern security protocols.</li>



<li>Option to enable <a href="https://kiona.com/story/blog/multi-factor-authentication/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">multi-factor authentication</a> on all our products.</li>



<li>Secured standardization of account management.</li>
</ul>



<p>We have also moved our internal IT to an ISO 27001-certified partner and continue working on security strategies in development routines and other internal processes.</p>





<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-usability-and-user-experience">2. Usability and user experience</h3>



<p>With <strong>single sign-on between all our products</strong> we can offer a greater user experience. You can log in once with your e-mail and password and then freely navigate between the products without being challenged for user credentials again.</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>You can also log in with your Microsoft 365 account and use your security policies for the entire organization, including multi-factor authentication and other security demands.</li>
</ul>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-existing-user-directory">3. Existing user directory</h3>



<p>Many of our customers have their own user directories, with thousands of users assigned permissions according to the company's organizational structure. To support this, you can now include federated domains.</p>

<li>This allows users in the customer user directory to be identified using their existing credentials with our products.</li>



<li>By delegating the user management to your identity management system, we ensure that you can keep following your existing security policies.</li>

<p>Use the d<em>ashboard</em> in IWMAC to compare multiple plants and to easier follow up on the plants with the most alarms. This means you quickly get an overview of deviations and can put measures at the plants that need it most.</p>



<p>In this first version, v.1 of the dashboard, you will have access to the following widgets:</p>

<h2 id="h-start-using-the-new-dashboard"><strong>Start using the new dashboard</strong></h2>



<p>When you log in to IWMAC, you will find a new submenu. You can access your plant list from the <em>"My plants"</em> option and see the new "<em>Dashboard</em>" button.</p>

<p>When you open the dashboard for the first time, it will be empty. Start by adding widgets. You can change the title and how many rows you want shown in each widget.</p>

<p>Each widget added to the dashboard comes with its own settings. They can easily be resized, moved around, edited, or deleted.</p>

<p>Use the new app, <strong>"IWMAC Alarms"</strong>, to access your plant alarms from your phone.</p>



<p>This access lets you monitor and confirm alarms that occur so that you can stay updated and in control, no matter time and place. </p>

<p>The app is freely accessible on IOS and Android handheld devices. The app can be downloaded from the <a href="https://apps.apple.com/ao/app/iwmac-alarms/id1633231306" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple App store</a> or <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kiona.alarm_handler&amp;hl=en&amp;gl=US" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google play store</a>.</p>



<p>All users with an <a href="https://kiona.com/products/iwmac" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">IWMAC</a> solution can use the app with their existing username and password. When logging in the first time, you can enable simple login with biometrics (FaceID/ fingerprints).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>SMS with alarms will have a link to open in the app (if you don't have the app, you will be sent to either Google Play or the Appstore)&nbsp;</p>

<p>We are proud to contribute in our way with what we do best. That's why we're delivering free access to real-time spot prices reflecting the European electricity market operated by Nord Pool in all Kiona products.&nbsp;</p>





<p>Nord Pool is the official electricity trading exchange for 16 European countries, meaning electricity use can be managed and planned more intelligently.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p><em>Spot prices are updated at 13:00 every day and contain data for the upcoming 24 hours.</em></p>

<p>IWMAC works to prepare the space by making sure you get the right temperature at the right time, based on set values. You can adjust these according to your wishes and needs.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>The Outlook integration can be an asset both when you want to book a meeting space or turn on the lights of your local sports team's football pitch. Here we meet advanced automation with a simple user interface such as Outlook.&nbsp;All these events can then be booked through outlook and have different pre-defined settings in IWMAC&nbsp;</p>



<p>This means that you can avoid using an unnecessary amount of energy. The system calculates how many hours in advance one must preheat or cool to reach the set point at the correct time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The phase-out and shutdown are taking place across Europe at roughly the same time. A substantial amount of mission-critical equipment is currently operative on this network, such as personal safety alarms, access control systems, elevators, IoT products, etc. <strong>All equipment currently on this network must be replaced before the shutdown of this network to continue working properly. </strong></p>



<p>Devices that collect data from buildings are also affected. Your equipment from Kiona, such as Edge Hub, Gateway, and Climate logger, currently supports 2G and 3G and will need to be replaced before this technology sunsets on 31/12/2025. </p>



<p><strong>Update (24/08/2023): </strong> We now have a new 4G/LTE-enabled Hub and Gateway, so customers who are planning their transition for the 2G sunset will now have increased coverage and faster speeds. This product is expected to be available by Q2 2023. With these solutions, our customers can rest easy knowing they won't miss any important communications that may come through on their 2G networks.</p>
