Labkyl is a part of Nordic Climate Group (NCG), a group consisting of 60 refrigeration companies in Sweden. The companies that make up NCG are niche players, and many are specialists in their fields. By joining forces, the entire group gains access to broad expertise and can also implement sustainable solutions on a wide scale.
“Historically, the refrigeration industry has consisted of many small companies, and the great thing about this solution is that all companies can still operate as individual companies with local involvement in each location. But if cutting-edge expertise is needed, it is available within the group”, says Patrik Larsson, Technical Manager at NCG, and also Technical Manager and Business Development Manager at Labkyl.
Climate improvements through natural refrigerants
New regulations
Labkyl specialises in heat pumps and cooling systems with natural refrigerants. Its customers currently include Vasakronan, AMF Fastigheter, Castellum, and Hufvudstaden.
“Our speciality is using carbon dioxide as a refrigerant, which is somewhat unique. Conventional refrigerants have a significant environmental impact, both in terms of PFAS and the greenhouse effect. We eliminate that, while also saving energy. When used in large facilities, it makes a very big difference to the climate”, says Patrik Larsson.
“We call our solution the DLE concept. Trends in society are really driving our market, and the directives only give us opportunities”, he continues.
Using Web Port and IWMAC for development
To achieve greater efficiency from heat pumps and cooling systems, the company also offers control, monitoring, and supervision of technical equipment. For a long time, Web Port has been used as a platform for managing buildings, in combination with IWMAC as an analysis tool for improving energy efficiency over time.
Web Port is now also part of Labkyl's proprietary control package, DLE Supervisor, and functions as a monitoring system at the facilities.
The DLE concept
“Web Port is well established among property owners, so we use it as an entry point and then add energy monitoring modules on top. Sometimes there are customer requirements for other systems, but if we are free to choose, we prefer to go for a standardized total solution.“
Historically, Labkyl worked with various, loosely connected systems and did not have a proper overview or follow-up. Thanks to one of their major customers, ICA, which included IWMAC in its requirements specification, they came into contact with us at Kiona.
Right from the start, he found that it was quick and easy to install and integrate the systems at the customers' premises.
You send a drawing of the store or property, fill out a form, and then Kiona completes the integration and sends a computer that connects to the local router via a network cable. This makes integration incredibly smooth and there are no limitations in terms of hardware or server databases, which makes it very scalable.
"With new tools, we can optimize added value for customers in a cost-effective way. Ninety percent of our customers are not technicians, so it is positive that there is a lot of technology that they can use themselves, without any other knowledge."
Climate-friendly and energy-efficient solutions
Labkyl views the real estate industry as a growing market, where developments are moving quickly to shift towards more climate-friendly and energy-efficient solutions.
"We would like to see Kiona develop tools even faster and incorporate features into the systems that match and support our work even further. We are happy to collaborate as testers.", concludes Patrik.
