<p>We are constantly improving our Platform with new features, add-ons, and updates to existing ones. In the last months, we have released many new updates to Edge, our self-learning AI engine and cloud service.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-sensor-selection">1. Sensor selection</h2>



<p>Selecting the best reference sensors to help with building optimization and achieve a stable indoor climate for tenants can be time-consuming. A building is very dynamic, and indoor temperatures are influenced by many factors that should often be ignored when optimizing the heating system.</p>



<p>To help with this task, we now introduce an automatic selection of reference sensors. This continuously evaluates the temperature characteristics of all sensors and selects the most suitable ones for optimization.</p>



<p>The feature can be turned on or off, depending on your needs. When off, you can still manually select which sensors are used for reference, like before.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-peak-control-steering-visualization">2. Peak Control steering visualization</h2>



<p>Our Peak Control reduces power loads by balancing the heat in your building in advance. This is done by proactively adding heat before a peak and avoiding energy use during the expensive peaks in the distribution. To illustrate how the steering works, we have introduced a graph showing how the load shifts in time steering visualization.</p>



<p>That way, you can see more clearly when the heat is added, and energy is avoided according to the temperature peaks.</p>

<p>We have a new Edge app ready for download. The Edge app lets you monitor and control your connected buildings with your mobile phone. You can stay on top of deviations and remote-control temporary heating adjustments. You can also get real-time data on temperature and humidity and monitor efficiency with real-time building performance.</p>



<p>It is directly connected to the Edge platform, and you can log in by using the same e-mail and password that you use on your Edge device.</p>

<p>Energy management has become a key focus for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). With new laws and regulations like energy audits, <a href="https://www.kieback-peter.com/en/news/interview-71-a-geg-building-automation/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">GEG § 71a</a>, and <a href="https://climate-laws.org/document/energy-efficiency-act-enefg_d64e" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">EnEfG</a> (The Energy Efficiency Act), companies are now required to take action. The ongoing shifts in energy and heating supply make it even more important for them to assess their energy usage and consider adopting an Energy Management System (EMS).</p>



<p><a href="https://www.stadtwerke-kiel.de/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stadtwerke Kiel</a> identified this need a decade ago and introduced the 24/7 energy cockpit to support its customers. This makes energy consumption transparent for companies and is the first and most important step towards energy efficiency and savings.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-stadtwerke-kiel-on-the-lookout-for-new-services">Stadtwerke Kiel on the lookout for new services</h2>





<p></p>



<p>When it came to selecting an energy management system, <strong>a key priority was for the provider to handle hosting internally</strong>. Compliance with data protection and security laws is standard practice for any German company. But as Stadtwerke Kiel highlights, "a good feeling is also needed." This made data storage outside the EU, such as in the USA or UK, an unacceptable option. Instead, hosting in Norway was the clear choice. Not only did it meet privacy regulations, but it also fit with northern Germany's historic ties to Scandinavia. This decision was made possible through Energinet's white-label solution.&nbsp;</p>



<p>"Other requirements," says Arne Wegeleben, "were simple and easy-to-understand operation of the system for practitioners and the possibility of a gradual introduction at the customer's premises. With these requirements in mind, the decision was made in 2014 in favor of <a href="https://kiona.com/products/energinet" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kiona's Energy Management Software, Energinet.</a>"&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-step-by-step-into-energy-management">Step by step into energy management</h2>



<p>The 24/7 energy cockpit allows customers to start with the first step, the main meter reading data, and then delve deeper into energy management. To begin with, it helps companies check the plausibility of their electricity, gas, heat or other media bills.</p>



<p>"Companies need to look at their energy consumption; in the future, the legal regulations will – to put it bluntly – affect everyone who has more than one employee," emphasizes Arne Wegeleben.</p>

<li><strong>How do you proceed with a new customer?</strong></li>

<p>"The realization that everything is as it should be or as expected is also an important insight that can be gained from the evaluations in the energy cockpit," says Arne Wegeleben.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Energy management makes the development of consumption visible and comparable. This makes it easy to compare energy bills and find errors. In order to achieve savings or uncover errors, it is important that someone on site feels responsible for the issue. This person can evaluate the data and look for appropriate solutions or take or suggest measures to reduce consumption.</p>

<li><strong>How do customers use the 24/7 energy cockpit to detect unnecessarily high electricity consumption?</strong></li>
</ul>





<p>One of the special features of Stadtwerke Kiel AG's energy management system is the monthly reports, which are compiled individually for customers. In accordance with the EMAS specifications, this also includes individual key figures that can be determined specifically for each company. Be it the energy consumption per euro of sales, the number of overnight stays, care places or theater visitors.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Stadtwerke Kiel AG also uses these reports internally for its own plants and buildings. Understanding their own energy usage and load profiles allows them, for example, to properly size photovoltaic systems to match their needs.</p>

<li><strong>How does understanding energy consumption and load profiles help plan a Photovoltaic System?&nbsp;</strong></li>
</ul>



<p>"We help our customers design PV systems based on their actual energy usage patterns to maximize self-consumption. Many systems are oversized, which leads to surplus electricity being fed back into the grid. However, the compensation offered by grid operators or direct marketers for this extra electricity is no longer a profitable option." says Arne Wegeleben.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Another feature of the 24/7 energy cockpit is its <strong>ability to</strong> <strong>track decentrally generated energy</strong>. Typically, PV systems only measure the electricity sent back to the grid for billing purposes. With the cockpit, the total energy generated is also recorded, making it possible to calculate a property's degree of self-sufficiency alongside its actual energy needs. This gives customers a clear understanding of how independent they are from the public power grid.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Stadtwerke Kiel's 24/7 energy cockpit is therefore <strong>an easy way for businesses to get started with an EMS</strong>. Of course, you don't have to be an energy customer of Stadtwerke Kiel AG.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jyväskylä Rental Apartments (JVA) is fully owned by <a href="https://www.jyvaskyla.fi/en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the City of Jyväskylä</a>. With around 7,000 apartments, they provide homes for about 11,700 residents. The city aims to be a zero-emission, zero-waste, and zero-overconsumption city of sustainable well-being in 2040 and carbon neutral in 2030.</p>



<p>"We want to save energy and reduce carbon emissions as part of this program. As a large part of our buildings are district-heated and the heat is produced by the city-owned Alva companies, we are subject to a significant part of the emission reduction targets for district heating," says Jaakko Vuori, real estate support engineer at JVA.&nbsp;</p>



<p>To reach these targets, they continuously monitor the energy consumption at their properties. The biggest challenge in reducing emissions, according to Vuori, is that energy use is essential. Energy consumption in buildings accounts for about 40 percent of emissions in Finland.</p>



<p>"The challenge is how to cut emissions and what kind of projects to undertake. The technology to reduce energy use is evolving at a rapid pace, so we need to think carefully about which energy-saving measures are worth investing in. It is not always worth jumping in without a thorough assessment," says Vuori.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-assisted-by-self-learning-artificial-intelligence">Assisted by self-learning artificial intelligence</h2>





<p>One way to achieve energy saving targets is through <a href="https://kiona.com/fi/tuotteet/edge" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Edge</a>. Today, around 150 of their buildings are connected to the system. Edge works to improve the energy efficiency of buildings by monitoring and optimizing the temperatures in the apartments.</p>



<p>"Some of these sites only have temperature monitoring, but most have a system that also controls energy consumption," Vuori shares.</p>



<p>Edge is an important tool in JVA's daily work and for deciding on future investments. The system is used all year round but in slightly different ways depending on the time of year.</p>



<p>"During the summer, we design and tender energy-saving projects. When considering where and what renovations to commission, <strong>the decisions are based on the accurate energy consumption monitoring data from Edge</strong>," Vuori says and continues:</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-energy-consumption-is-on-a-downward-trend">Energy consumption is on a downward trend</h2>



<p>According to JVA's calculations, energy consumption has been on a downward trend for a long time. The 2023 Sustainability Report shows that specific energy consumption <em>(Specific consumption is monitored on a property-by-property basis)</em> has decreased by 10% compared to 2016. In 2023, carbon dioxide emissions from energy consumption amounted to 6 249 tCO₂.</p>



<p>In the coming years, JVA will continue to take several measures to reduce energy consumption. One possibility is to expand the use of systems such as Edge.</p>

<p>JVA's buildings are some of those who were included in <a href="https://cta-eu1.hubspot.com/web-interactives/public/v1/track/click?encryptedPayload=AVxigLKadg0hNREAXbiPSA4t5pzdTUXOzrNWOcEd%2F6uBBMkfpvimALD2TsHQRJ1POQsfnOhfCo33EaJNIqtw9WajDBXGjbFmgu1IFJCGgkWcAM1bg668wHsWC5iRoq2IxarWubqD1aq%2FE897Yhv%2BenyMfk8S64r8v5vAPb5%2BJH9BtH2DfCiYl1czoKq%2FNzLB4CR%2F%2FSLH7OVFxgeNv3mJIQ%3D%3D&amp;portalId=8805657" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">our joint study with Ericsson and The Carbon Trust</a>, to measure just how effective implementing Edge can be. The reports highlights the critical role that technology and data-driven solutions play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and is why JVA among others, also continue using the solution.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-saving-energy-and-decarbonizing-residential-homes">Saving energy and decarbonizing residential homes</h2>



<p>In a collaborative effort, Ericsson and Kiona worked to show how connectivity and AI can enable significant savings for 356 residential apartment buildings, with a total space of 1.5 million m2 in Sweden and Finland. The analysis was conducted by The Carbon Trust.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>This study was performed using the ITU- T L.1480 standard and is one of the first to do so. The ITU-T L. 1480 provides a methodology for assessing how the use of information and communication technology (ICT) solutions impacts greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of other sectors.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>By combining the power of connectivity and Edge AI, a net total of 17 GWh of consumed energy was saved (for 2022) – avoiding over 1 kTonne of CO₂ emissions.</strong> </p>

The alarm list can help discuss a possible breakdown and compensation with the refrigeration supplier. This feature is a great time saver for users, as exporting the alarm history has previously been a hands-on work by copying and pasting.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-preservation-of-buildings-and-energy-efficiency-through-digital-solutions">Preservation of buildings and energy efficiency through digital solutions</h2>



<p>The Nikolaikirche houses culturally significant exhibits that require a carefully controlled indoor climate. To protect these artifacts, the humidity level must stay above 50%, and the temperature needs to remain stable between 16°C and 18°C.</p>



<p>But when experts from <a href="https://www.bim-berlin.de/karriere/warum-die-bim" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BIM Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH</a> and the <a href="https://www.stadtmuseum.de/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stadtmuseum Berlin Foundation</a> started tracking conditions inside the church, they found they weren't optimal. The temperature was often too high, the air was too dry, and both were taking a toll on the artifacts – not to mention driving up energy costs.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-installation">Installation</h3>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>The first step was adjusting the indoor temperature to the recommended range. This simple measure already helped increase humidity levels on average.</li>



<li>Next, we'll assess whether the existing humidity sensors inside St. Nicholas Church can be used to regulate humidity levels actively. This would help preserve the exhibits while also making the building more energy-efficient.</li>
</ul>



<p>In addition to better preservation through increased humidity, the building also operates more energy efficiently.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.seedvault.no/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Svalbard Global Seed Vault</a>, established in 2008, serves as a secure backup for the world's crop diversity, currently housing over one million seed samples. The vault is designed as a fail-safe storage facility and provides long-term seed preservation under highly controlled environmental conditions.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-monitoring-the-earth-s-backup">Monitoring the Earth's backup</h2>



<p>It all began when <a href="https://www.ptg.no/en/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PTG – Perfect Temperature Group</a>, a Kiona-certified partner, won the contract to supply the refrigeration plant for the total contractor Hæhre. They wanted us at Kiona to supply them with one of our SCADA solutions.</p>



<p>While PTG supplied the cooling equipment, we at Kiona were, and still are, responsible for monitoring the technical equipment, such as the dehumidification system and CO₂ machine. <a href="https://kiona.com/products/iwmac">IWMAC, our most comprehensive SCADA system</a>, ensures stable humidity levels and precise temperature control.</p>



<p>The system also tracks energy consumption to optimize efficiency, reduce load peaks, and maintain correct temperatures throughout the vault –<strong> </strong>from the entrance to the highly secured seed storage chambers.</p>





<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-remote-control-for-full-oversight">Remote control for full oversight</h2>



<p>With detailed system visualizations, PTG can continuously monitor all technical processes and ensure everything is functioning as it should. But monitoring alone isn't enough; adjustments must be possible when needed.</p>



<p>IWMAC allows service partners to remotely adjust and optimize the system from anywhere in the world, meaning they don't need to travel to Svalbard to make changes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-maintaining-the-perfect-storage-conditions">Maintaining the perfect storage conditions</h2>



<p>The vault is blasted into the rock base of Platåfjellet, about a mile from Longyearbyen Airport. Situated in permafrost, it naturally maintains a temperature of 3 – 4°C below zero.</p>



<p>This location was chosen for its stability. However, predictability is just as important as fail-safes. <strong>The vault's strict climate requirements demand a steady -18°C, no more, no less.</strong> IWMAC makes it possible to both achieve, secure and document that precise temperature.</p>

In addition to our own developed ideas for improvement, we were convinced that ideas from our users would also strengthen our solutions.&nbsp;</p>





<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-idea-portal-goes-live-nbsp">The Idea Portal goes live&nbsp;</h2>



<p>With that in mind, "<a href="http://kiona.ideas.aha.io/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Idea Portal</a>" was introduced in 2023. We created the portal to be easy to use and open for all users with a Kiona ID. Once signed in, you can submit new ideas for a selected product. Our workflow makes it easy to follow the status of your idea. And, you can comment or vote on ideas – whether it is your own or someone else's. No matter how big or small the idea, we promise that it will be treated with respect and that all ideas will be valued based on facts and data according to our well-defined product development process.</p>

<p>It is crucial to have an efficient workflow to make this function work. We created a thorough workflow to make it easier for us to work with and for our users to follow their ideas through the different stages of the workflow.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>We go through our idea portal weekly. When reviewing ideas, we give them an initial score and ensure they contain enough information to understand and grasp what they are about. Our goal is to leave the initial stage <em>Needs review </em>as soon as possible, and our target is within two weeks.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>Every week, we choose the three top ideas with the status of <em>Future consideration</em> per segment; Building management, Energy management, and Retail and refrigeration—and decide to investigate them further.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>These ideas get the status <em>Gathering insights </em>where our product managers investigate them in more detail and determine if they should be developed.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>If the idea can be achieved with existing functionality, it is set to <em>Already exists.</em> We have a set strategy for our platform, and if an idea is not a good fit for our strategy, it will be set to <em>Will not implement. </em> </p>



<p>All ideas that could be developed get the status <em>Likely to implement</em>. Once every month, our roadmap team reviews this list and selects the highest-ranked ideas to be developed. After this stage, we decide to if they should be placed on our roadmap and set it to  <em>Planning to implement</em>, but no work has begun yet.</p>



<p>When an idea has passed the above stages, it will be set to <em>Under development</em>, and last but not least, it will be set to <em>Released </em>and will soon be available on the platform. </p>

Case Studies

<p>Historic and protected buildings are often an untapped, sustainable resource. These buildings also need upgrades while respecting their protected status.</p>



<p>Lillestrøm church council has worked with us at Kiona and <a href="https://bsteknikk.no/">BS Teknikk</a>, one of our Certified Partners, to improve the operation and management of Skedsmo Church and chapel.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-sustainable-upgrades-for-protected-and-historic-buildings">Sustainable upgrades for protected and historic buildings</h2>



<p>Skedsmo Church is located in Lillestrøm municipality in Norway. It was built in the late 1100s, but only the walls of the nave have been fully preserved from the original structure. The church underwent major renovations between 1858 and 1864, keeping the oldest parts intact. It is classified as automatically protected due to its age (pre-1650).</p>



<p>In 2020, the process of upgrading the 1,340 m² church and chapel began. With 1.4-meter-thick walls and protected building elements, <strong>wireless sensors were the ideal solution</strong>. A wireless system avoids invasive cabling and construction work while also being quick to install.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-installation">Installation</h2>



<p>Skedsmo Church has received a new heating system, <a href="https://kiona.com/products/iwmac/smart-functions">Smart Functions</a> for better indoor climate control, and the <a href="https://kiona.com/products/iwmac">IWMAC system</a>. This was achieved through new automation, field components, and a new SCADA system via BACnet IP.</p>



<p>An <a href="https://kiona.com/story/blog/iwmac-outlook-integration">Outlook calendar integration</a> has also been implemented, allowing settings for 10 different heating zones in the church. For events like baptisms, funerals, or weddings, the technical systems adjust based on the selected mode. The church automatically switches to 'booked' mode and regulates according to the set points.</p>



<p>Additionally, the IWMAC system is equipped with Smart Functions like <a href="https://kiona.com/products/iwmac/smart-functions/forecast-based-control">Forecast-based control</a> and <a href="https://kiona.com/products/iwmac/smart-functions/smart-guard">Smart Guard</a>. The Forecast Control uses a Yr.no integration to reach the desired temperature at the right time. Smart Guard manages energy consumption and reduces peak loads by analyzing a wide range of operational data. Using logic, it adjusts temperatures, starts and stops equipment, and gradually smooths out power curves.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-reducing-energy-consumption">Reducing energy consumption</h2>



<p>The energy consumption has decreased by <strong>58,350 kWh</strong> compared to pre-renovation levels. This means the church went from an average consumption of 210,000 kWh to 151,650 kWh – <strong>a 28% reduction</strong>.</p>

Skedsmo Church

<p><a href="https://www.victoriahem.se/om-oss/hallbart-fastighetsagande/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Victoriahem</a> owns properties from Trelleborg in the south to Uppsala in the north, most built in the 1960s and 70s. They are usually properties with development potential that they see as an opportunity to improve.</p>



<p>"Many buildings also have high energy consumption, which means that we see great potential to reduce energy use," says Dan Mårtensson, Head of Property Development at Victoriahem.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-on-track-with-energy-targets-and-sustainability-goals">On track with energy targets and sustainability goals</h2>





<p>Since 2015, the company has used digital tools (<a href="https://kiona.com/products/edge" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Edge</a>) to control heating in its property portfolio. This has improved energy efficiency, and the tool helps the company achieve its sustainability goals.</p>



<p>The company is on track with its current targets and compares well with its real estate peers. An update and clarification of the targets is currently underway to continue the work on reducing CO₂ emissions, among other things.</p>



<p>"One of our current targets is to reduce the amount of purchased energy for building operations by 30% by 2030 (from 2015 levels). At the end of 2024, we were at a reduction of around 26%. We are also working to reduce water consumption and are making good progress towards our targets there, too," says Dan Mårtensson.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-new-eu-targets-for-building-management">New EU targets for building management</h2>



<p>One of the challenges in sustainability work is to focus correctly and make important choices based on financial limitations. The new requirements in EU directives, such as <a href="https://energy.ec.europa.eu/topics/energy-efficiency/energy-efficient-buildings/energy-performance-buildings-directive_en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)</a>, mean that you must be able to prioritize correctly and analyze how far to invest in energy efficiency improvements.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>&nbsp;"We will have to wait and see what the final EPBD requirements will be, but we will be faced with decisions to invest to reach the nearest requirements in 2030 and 2035 or even make larger investments to reach the 2050 requirements directly."&nbsp;</p>



<p>EU directives and taxonomy also influence the sustainability strategy.</p>





<p></p>



<p>Meeting the upcoming EU directives is challenging, partly because of interpreting the directives and because of ensuring that you have relevant and reliable data to report. When it comes to energy use, Victoriahem has good follow-up via the technical building systems they use.</p>



<p>"We are working on collecting data for several areas of CSRD reporting. Collecting and validating data takes time, but it is necessary as the demands for transparency in reporting increase."</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-a-proven-solution">A proven solution</h2>



<p>In a new report produced by the independent organization <a href="https://www.carbontrust.com/en-eu/what-we-do" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Carbon Trust</a> and the telecom company <a href="https://www.ericsson.com/en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ericsson</a>, the actual effects of using AI to control energy use have been analyzed. Parts of Victoriahem's portfolio are included in the data.</p>





<p>According to the report entitled <a href="https://cta-eu1.hubspot.com/web-interactives/public/v1/track/click?encryptedPayload=AVxigLKadg0hNREAXbiPSA4t5pzdTUXOzrNWOcEd%2F6uBBMkfpvimALD2TsHQRJ1POQsfnOhfCo33EaJNIqtw9WajDBXGjbFmgu1IFJCGgkWcAM1bg668wHsWC5iRoq2IxarWubqD1aq%2FE897Yhv%2BenyMfk8S64r8v5vAPb5%2BJH9BtH2DfCiYl1czoKq%2FNzLB4CR%2F%2FSLH7OVFxgeNv3mJIQ%3D%3D&amp;portalId=8805657" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Case Study on the Avoided Emissions from a Building Heating Management System Using an AI Steering Function</a>, the AI steering function has a net positive effect, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The study shows that <strong>average energy consumption is reduced by 7%, and CO2 emissions are reduced by 6%</strong> compared to the reference scenario.</p>



<p>"Seeing concrete results that confirm the impact of our investments and tools is very positive. This serves as proof that we are taking the right approach. Additionally, it confirms that our efforts in building energy optimization are leading to real improvements," says Dan Mårtensson with satisfaction.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-digitization-vs-physical-presence">Digitization vs. physical presence</h2>



<p>Much of the work managers have to deal with today is technology-related. Digitization and AI make the work easier, but the challenge still lies in correctly prioritizing a complex everyday life with many balls in the air, according to Dan Mårtensson.</p>



<p>He emphasizes that it will be even more critical in the future to weigh digitization against physical presence.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>"Managers will need to manage digital systems while setting the right priorities. They must also be able to build trust with tenants and work closely with them. The manager's role involves high commitment and responsibility to strike this balance."</p>



<p>His role as a real estate development manager means he needs to consider business investments that increase revenue and reduce costs while ensuring the company takes care of the maintenance and long-term improvements of their buildings.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>"Reports, such as the one we have now received where The Carbon Trust, as an independent actor, has looked at data from our buildings, are important to confirm that we are on the right track and to be able to set new goals. It is also a good way to make our work visible internally and externally. We have made great progress, but there is still potential to get even better in energy optimization and our overall property development work," concludes Dan Mårtensson.</p>

<p>I currently work as Head of Sales and Projects for Energinet in DACH countries and have worked for Kiona (Cebyc) since April 2014, so it's been 11 years now.</p>



<p>I’m originally from Karlsruhe, Germany, and live with my family in Düsseldorf. I have a master's degree in business administration (M.Sc.) and am certified in Energy Management (EnMA-TÜV).</p>



<p>Before joining Kiona, I held several roles in project management and sales in both Scandinavian and German companies. I have worked with sustainable technologies and holistic solutions and had experience with both medium and large companies (17,000+ employees), as well as in an international energy consultancy in Düsseldorf.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-does-a-typical-day-look-like-for-you">What does a typical day look like for you?</h2>



<p>My daily tasks vary depending on the project, but they typically include a mix of sales, customer support, and project management. I handle direct sales, work with partners, and manage key accounts. I also train industrial clients on <a href="https://kiona.com/products/energinet">our Energinet platform</a> and provide ongoing support.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>A big part of my role involves product presentations, project management, contract negotiations and tenders. I also determine measurement points and the necessary hardware at customer locations, ensuring everything is set up correctly. Additionally, I work on system configuration and logistics and adapt our Scandinavian products to the German market.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>I also represent Kiona as an energy management expert at major trade fairs like E-World in Essen, EuroShop in Düsseldorf, and ISH in Frankfurt.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When we say loads, we think of energy consumers such as ventilation systems, heat pumps – or anything else that uses electricity. <strong>If you haven't installed a load control solution, you probably use more energy than necessary.&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;</p>



<p>Traditional peak control solutions monitor the maximum power in buildings. If you're using unnecessarily high levels of energy, the system shuts down loads such as lighting, street heating and other heat sources. However, it can be drastic to cut the loads completely when you only need to reduce the power slightly, spread over several loads.</p>



<p>We integrate the components you want to control into <a href="https://kiona.com/products/iwmac" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">IWMAC</a>, and the load controller monitors the building's total energy consumption. If it exceeds the limits you set, the consumption of all these loads is restricted.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-better-load-control-lower-energy-bills">Better load control, lower energy bills</h2>



<p><a href="https://kiona.com/products/smart-guard" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">IWMAC's Smart Guard</a> is set up based on consumption from previous years. A thorough analysis is carried out in advance, so that the system knows where there is the most to be gained. </p>



<p>You can easily <strong>set different monthly limits</strong> based on the expected maximum output. For example, it would be natural to set higher heating limits in January than in August. In this case, it's an advantage to have a history of energy consumption from the previous year as a starting point.</p>



<p>The Smart Guard <strong>monitors hourly consumption minute by minute</strong>. If something should skyrocket, it starts to reduce by a certain percentage. The system automatically knows how much it "has to go on" and reduces consumption to stay below the current hour's limits. This is a more forward-looking system.</p>

<p>Using a lot of electricity, even for a short while, can be costly. Power consumption can fluctuate from day to day, and with grid rent or power charges (sometimes even based on the hourly average effect), one hour of high consumption can mean a lot of money. With our Smart Guard, you can ensure you don't get any unpleasant surprises.</p>



<p>When the smart peak load guard is integrated into a SCADA system, the disconnection signal can be picked up in subcenters and <strong>distributed over larger parts of the system</strong>, reducing power consumption throughout the building.</p>



<p>This system can also be integrated with Yr.no. This means that the ventilation system can be controlled much more intelligently. <p>"To meet the climate goals, we need to get the existing building stock to deliver the best indoor climate by using as little energy as possible. We need to automate technical systems to a much greater extent, and operating personnel must have good tools to help them monitor that everything is working," says Kjell Petter Småge, CEO of <a href="https://www.evotek.no/">the consulting firm EvoTek</a>.</p>



<p>EvoTek provides technical consulting services on the client side and uses <a href="https://kiona.com/products/energinet/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Energinet</a> as an analysis tool. Energinet's most important function is giving operating personnel a quick and easy overview of whether everything is working. EvoTek has also been involved in developing the software over the past 20 years.</p>

<p>Optimization and sustainability reporting are high on the agendas of customers and property owners, and to succeed, you need the right data.</p>



<p>Magnus Østbye, Senior Advisor at EvoTek, knows all about data quality assurance. With 10 years of experience, he knows what it takes to get a successful project. He explains that EvoTek has a customer portfolio of approx. 15 million square meters, and through Energinet, customers monitor around 23,000 active metering points. The consulting customers include office buildings, schools, industry, shops, and shopping centers – where they are by far the largest.</p>



<p>"We are a unique company that specializes in advising clients on technical and environmental issues throughout the life cycle of the building. Everything from identifying the best solutions in the sketch/pre-project phase, following up through the construction phase and trial operation, and assisting the operating personnel throughout the building's operating phase. We need to have the facts on the table. To do that, we completely depend on a high level of expertise and a good system like Energinet," says Østbye.</p>





<p>"There is still a lot of manual handling of data and PDFs out there. We're working on collecting good data so that you can process it further, make calculations, and apply factors that make it usable. So having quality data flowing in has everything to do with success," he continues.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-reality-check-of-the-digital-and-physical">The reality check of the digital and physical</h2>



<p>Østbye explains that he solves 80-90% of the work himself with the help of one report. This shows the breadth and flexibility of the program. With a platform where everything is gathered, it's only where you need to work – and that's where you'll find all the information you need quickly and efficiently.</p>



<p>But you still have to physically go and review the building.</p>



<p>"The fact that everyone at Evotek is out in the field with the customer and sees the practical side of the building is at least as important as the data you see online. You need to know some technical facts about cabinets and panels and whether what you want to measure is actually consumption worth measuring. Then we systemize the data to get something useful out of it," he says.</p>



<p>Local operations staff receive daily and weekly reports with consumption figures to check that forecasts are being followed, look for deviations, and follow up on alarms.</p>

<p>"In our experience, there is a lot of focus on colors and layout in the market, which is important to get an attractive system with good design. But it's of little value if the data in the system isn't of good enough quality, and this is where Energinet stands out as a proven and solid system.</p>



<p>"The biggest advantage lies in the transparency with which the system is structured. Users must be able to find information, logical expressions and recognize the data path from top to bottom. The system must be so user-friendly that if you want to learn, you should be able to become great at it. Of course, as consultants, we can help you there too."</p>



<p>General Manager, Kjell Petter Småge, agrees;</p>



<p>"We have highly qualified employees who focus on both HVAC technical systems and the technical-builder role. We help structure the system so that the operator gets the detailed information needed to do his job well. At the same time, those who want overall trends and the red and black numbers will also find what they are looking for," he concludes.</p>

<p>Senior Advisor Magnus Østbye further explains that it's a job well done when customers get better results.&nbsp;</p>





<p>He explains that many people may just choose a system based on price or that it was something they stumbled upon in a search without mapping their success factors. What is it that you need to improve? And are you getting the numbers you actually need?&nbsp;</p>



<p>"We use our customers' systems, but if we're going to be a reseller and support a system, it has to be the best. Many of our customers have ongoing framework agreements, and there is a reason why they stay. It's because the quality of the delivery has been good and because Kiona follows the market over time," says Østbye.&nbsp;</p>



<p>"Together with Kiona, we're constantly taking the temperature of what we think is coming, what we need to work on, and what is happening in the market. We work together to further develop software and determine how we meet new requirements and wishes. We want to be forward-thinking and continue to challenge ourselves."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Andreas Skälegård is an energy strategist at <a href="https://www.uddevallahem.se/">Uddevallahem</a> and a key person behind the real estate company's focus on energy efficiency with technology from several suppliers. More standardized and accessible products have contributed to Uddevallahem's daring leap to build its own ecosystem of products, systems, and platforms that all talk to each other – for <a href="https://kiona.com/products">open, flexible, and independent building automation</a> and energy management.</p>



<p>One factor making this all possible is open APIs and protocols and the ease with which different systems and platforms have been integrated.</p>





<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-a-project-shaped-by-industry-challenges">A project shaped by industry challenges</h2>



<p>Uddevallahem and Kiona have collaborated for several years through our delivery of <a href="https://kiona.com/products/edge">Edge</a>. The collaboration has been proactive, and various challenges related to building operations have been discussed and analyzed.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>One such challenge that emerged in 2023 was the decision by telecom operators on <a href="https://kiona.com/story/blog/update-to-lte-4g-2g-and-3g-networks-will-shut-down">the future decommissioning of 2G/3G networks</a>.</p>



<p>"We realized that we would need to invest in quite a lot of new hardware to protect our investment and ensure continued optimized operation even after the future shutdown. That's when the idea and ambition to find a software solution was born instead, with open APIs between the different platforms as an important cornerstone," says Andreas.</p>



<p>"This was in mid-2023, and we started the work sometime after that with Kiona and the other companies involved, who really got into the idea. Two milestones were set for the project, where milestone one meant we would have a couple of pilots integrated, tested, and operational before midsummer 2024. The final goal was to have all of Uddevallahem's buildings (already controlled by Kiona via the Edge Hub hardware) operational and ready before the end of September 2024, and we will succeed in that."</p>





<p>"It should be easy to integrate your system with functions from several suppliers. Since the pieces exchange data streams, we can change the address of the data flow and let it go to other suppliers and functions. <strong>Avoiding the lock-in effect gives us the security to dare to invest.</strong>"</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-importance-of-open-apis">The importance of open APIs</h2>



<p>Technical installations and buildings require close monitoring and a clear overview to keep energy costs down and ensure smooth operation. To make this possible, systems and platforms need to be open and integrable to create opportunities for end customers with different needs and existing systems and suppliers.</p>



<p>Andreas Skälegård explains that the prerequisites for creating this type of ecosystem are that basically everything is based on code and data streams. A few years ago, various gateways, converters, collection units, and other hardware were required to be installed. This was both time-consuming and difficult to manage. Thanks to MQTT, we can run the data traffic cloud-to-cloud, and cloud-&gt;Uddevallahem's IT environment-&gt;cloud again. With code and data streams, you can scale up much easier and faster.</p>



<p>"All the puzzle pieces described above have been developed by different companies at different paces. They are industrialized and commercially available to all customers. <strong>What is "new" is that all the pieces have been put together into a system that works together and delivers better efficiency than the pieces individually.</strong> We've built our own ecosystem of independent pieces and got the most efficient control algorithms where everything is enabled by open APIs."</p>

We support many third-party software where we collect meter data from their APIs – including data from utility companies or other system suppliers. <p>Now, we have made sending data to Energinet via API easier than ever by letting users set it up themselves.  </p>



<p>You can now create API imports directly in Energinet, just as you could previously create e-mail imports. Generate your API tokens directly in the interface and decide which areas they should be valid for.   </p>

<p>As a "small" public housing company with around 4,700 apartments, it can feel difficult to dare to invest in AI and digital solutions. Andreas Skälegård is an energy strategist at <a href="https://www.uddevallahem.se/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Uddevallahem</a> and a key person in the fact that the real estate company has nevertheless invested in energy efficiency with modern technology.</p>



<p>"In this context, Uddevallahem is a small property owner with little staff and no financial resources for development. We must rely on the commercial players' pre-developed services. For example, we can take advantage of Kiona's technology development, which has been going on for almost 20 years and whose development is passed on to all their customers, not just us," he says.</p>



<p>Much has happened in recent years regarding more standardized and accessible products, which has contributed to Uddevallahem now daring to build its own ecosystem of open platforms for building automation and energy management.</p>





<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-pieces-of-the-system">The pieces of the system</h2>



<p>Uddevallahem has previously used <a href="https://kiona.com/products/edge">Edge</a> to control heating in their buildings with AI, so we were used to working together. The ecosystem they now have built consists of, in simple terms, a number of pieces of a puzzle. Key pieces are Schneider's SCADA platform EcoStruxure, which is connected to modern controllers/PLCs and temperature sensors in the apartments. Temperature is measured with either wired M-Bus or the wireless and unlicensed standard technology LoRaWan.</p>





<p><a href="https://lora-alliance.org/about-lorawan/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">LoRaWan</a> has the advantage of being a radio standard with very good coverage. Uddevalla has four antennas covering the urban area and receives measurement data, even from "windowless basement rooms, according to Andreas Skälegård.</p>



<p>Uddevallahem's system architecture includes Schneider EcoStruxure, a SCADA platform that Edge, in this case, integrates with via an MQTT Broker. EcoStruxure subscribes to all updates made in Kiona MQTT and continuously pushes out changes to each building's own DUC/PLC.</p>



<p>A common example could be that Kiona's AI has made a new calculation on the heat curve, which is published to the MQTT Broker. EcoStruxure subscribes to updates from there, detects new data for a specific property, and enables updates to the building's connected DUC.</p>



<p>All in all, the connection between the different pieces of the puzzle was smooth and easy.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-mqtt-broker-acts-as-a-hub">MQTT Broker acts as a hub</h2>



<p>Kiona MQTT Broker – This feature works like OneDrive for data, where different stakeholders, users, and suppliers with authorization can work in the same "document" simultaneously.</p>



<p>The structure is based on the <a href="https://nodered.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Node-RED software</a>, a flow-based, low-code development tool for visual programming to connect hardware devices, APIs, and online services. By creating JavaScript functions in a browser-based interface, a flow editor has been set up that can be likened to an Excel sheet with tabs for different types of data. For example, there is a tab for indoor climate and another tab for control.</p>



<p>The MQTT Broker controls what EcoStruxure (SCADA) should do in each building.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-how-the-intelligence-is-used">How the intelligence is used</h2>



<p>Temperature readings from each apartment constantly flow in, and the data model automatically learns, via AI and Machine Learning, how the house feels and behaves and how thermally sluggish it is. It also takes in parameters such as date and time and local weather. Edge transmits the data via DUCs at the heating stations and pairs it with measured temperatures in the apartments. The data goes in both directions and teaches the system what temperature to send out.</p>





<p>He also believes that having the calculations, or algorithms for the setpoint calculations, in an external cloud, as Kiona does, has several advantages. He says that vendors who build their technology in this way can be very agile in developing the algorithms and can add more inputs from other data sources. They can also modify the algorithms so that different input parameters have more or less impact on the setpoints.</p>



<p>"Kiona develops the algorithms in its own IT environment. There is no need to transfer programs or updates to the customers, which always takes time before implementation, and time is money. All this makes the system development cost-effective and, not least, faster to implement in more buildings."</p>



<p>In addition to having the calculations "in the cloud," the service includes a visual block model of Uddevallahem's various buildings, which the system controls. The 3D models illustrate everything clearly and show each apartment temperature sensor as a small dot in different colors: blue, green, or red, depending on the measured value.</p>



<p>You can turn the model upside down and examine the indoor climate over time. This provides strong visual feedback that can translate the theoretical into the concrete.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-results">The results</h2>



<p>The project will be completed in early fall 2024 by connecting about half of Uddevallahem's buildings to the ecosystem, a process done at the push of a button.</p>



<p>"It will have a major impact on how we at Uddevallahem work with automation and efficiency in our buildings," says Andreas Skälegård.</p>



<p>This approach is based on code and does not require hardware installation as needed before. Code is much faster to implement for a heating center and then easily repeated for ten more buildings, rather than ordering electricians to install hardware with a low repetition rate. It also offers several advantages, such as implementing updates directly and automatically, including injecting AI algorithms for energy optimization. <strong>In addition, an ecosystem that is dynamic, flexible, and scalable has been created</strong>.</p>

<p>Indoor temperatures in apartment buildings can vary widely. Behavior, age, the number of residents in the apartment, and personal preferences for indoor temperature are factors affecting heat distribution. Technical factors such as old thermostats, imbalances in heating or ventilation systems, deficiencies such as the quality of windows and insulation also have an impact. Even if the buildings are built in the same way and area, they will have different conditions in terms of external influences.</p>



<p>The wind can affect one side of the building while creating a negative pressure on the opposite side, resulting in a natural increase in ventilation. One side of a building is probably more exposed to sunlight, and depending on whether or not there is any sun-shading, the impact on the building will be different. These factors will affect the indoor comfort of the apartments and require measures to adjust the temperature in the building.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-pinpoint-the-problematic-areas">Pinpoint the problematic areas</h2>



<p>Edge has a function that can display indoor temperature and humidity at the apartment level in a 3D model. The 3D view makes it easier to see the heat distribution throughout the building. You can quickly see which staircase, floor, or wall has deviations in temperature or humidity. This knowledge helps to detect any faults in the building envelope or ventilation system, ensure the indoor temperature of the building, and identify any imbalances in the heating system.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Color-coded indications</h3>



<p>The 3D model shows the sensor temperature compared to the desired indoor temperature in colored dots. Green indicates the temperature is within the desired range, and red or blue means the temperature is above or below the desired range. The indoor climate changes over time, so by using the playback function, you can see how the temperature has changed over time. You can also rotate and view the 3D model from different angles, which is demonstrated in the video below.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">High humidity makes for colder apartments</h2>



<p>Of course, a building's humidity is linked to outdoor humidity, reflecting the feeling in the apartment. In high humidity, indoor temperature appears colder and more sensitive to,e.g., drafts. Humidity can also be measured and visualized in our 3D model, reflecting how well ventilation works in the apartments. You can quickly identify anomalous readings in individual apartments. Absolute humidity: Orange indicates the driest sensor, while blue indicates an absolute humidity higher than +2 g/m³ relative to the driest sensor.</p>

<p>We also offer mobile collection units with ten indoor sensors for temporarily logging temperature and humidity. Use the sensors to log apartments with problems or control indoor temperature and humidity. All measurements are presented and reported in Edge and the mobile app. Edge can import the most common indoor sensors on the market with open data and several external brands to monitor the temperature and humidity distribution in the house's apartments.</p>

<p>Today, most cooling systems are equipped with heat recovery. Heat recovery refers to capturing and reusing waste heat that would otherwise be lost to the environment. After the primary function of the cooling (or heating) capacity has been performed, the excess heat can be reused to either improve the efficiency of the heat exchange process or used elsewhere.</p>

<p><strong>As a cooperative housing association, Lersøgaard cannot take energy optimization or indoor climate lightly. That's why they've partnered with us at Kiona to strengthen their sustainable operations and identify problem areas in their buildings, located in the vibrant heart of Copenhagen.</strong></p>



<p>Our journey with <a href="https://www.abl1926.dk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lersøgaard</a> began in 2017 as part of a collaborative project with Hofor, Copenhagen's central heating company. The primary focus was on load control – managing the buildings' energy consumption, especially in areas that suffered from poor cooling on their central heating systems. While the original project achieved its goals, the savings achieved with <a href="https://kiona.com/products/edge">Edge, our energy optimization system</a>, convinced Lersøgaard to continue using the solution after the project ended.&nbsp;</p>



<p>During this period, Edge proved its capabilities by significantly improving the cooling, and showed itself as a tangible tool for the managing staff to identify problem areas and inefficiencies.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-digitalization-and-rollout">Digitalization and rollout</h2>



<p>The collaboration involved integrating Edge in Lersøgaard's buildings, consisting of two separate heating systems with a total area of 24,120 square meters spread over 335 apartments.</p>



<p>The installation included connecting the buildings to our cloud service, sensors on pipes to measure flow and return temperatures in the heating center and wireless room sensors in selected apartments. These components were integrated with existing meters and controls to form a single system.</p>





<p>Today, the fixed measuring points in the buildings provide data to Kiona every 15 minutes, control the heating system and indoor climate, and monitor new measuring points for domestic hot water and water circulation. <strong>This ensures that all aspects of the building's energy usage are monitored and that our AI optimizes the heating in real-time.</strong></p>





<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-future-outlook">Future outlook</h2>



<p>Looking ahead, the partnership continues. The longer the buildings remain integrated with Edge, the greater the cumulative savings in energy and cost will be. Continuous monitoring and optimization will drive further improvements in energy efficiency and reductions in the carbon footprint.</p>



<p>Moreover, the data collected and analyzed by Edge will provide valuable insights for future projects, enabling Lersøgaard to make informed decisions about their energy management strategies.</p>

<p>A healthy indoor climate has fresh air, moderate temperature, and no harmful radiation.</p>



<p>Indoor air is, by definition, contaminated air from the outside. Think of it: what we breathe inside is really a mix of outdoor air, and pollutants from construction materials, people, machines and other things that one finds indoors. With today's well-insulated buildings, these pollutants can linger if there aren't systems to remove them. Thats why, at the heart of every healthy indoor climate, is an efficient ventilation system.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-consequences-of-bad-indoor-air-quality-iaq">Consequences of bad indoor air quality (IAQ)</h3>



<p>The most common cause of poor air quality is that the building has an old or poorly maintained ventilation system.</p>



<p>Poor ventilation traps pollutants like carbon dioxide (CO₂), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and particulate matter, leading to health risks and decreased productivity. Because of this, various rules and regulations have been established by the European Union, the World Health Organization (WHO) and others at both international and regional levels.</p>





<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-requirements-for-ventilation-and-air-quality-in-commercial-buildings">Requirements for ventilation and air quality in commercial buildings:</h2>



<p>Different requirements for ventilation must be met for buildings in different parts of the world.</p>



<p><strong>A general rule</strong> is that a building's ventilation must be adapted to the number of people using the building, pollution level, and moisture in the rooms. Pollution in harmful concentrations is prohibited, as this can be a health hazard.</p>





<p>Workrooms and staff rooms must be designed and furnished to have a satisfactory climate regarding temperature, humidity, drafts, and air quality.</p>

Like water, they find the path of least resistance and exploit it. That's why cyberattacks often target, for example, outdated or forgotten equipment, or even nearby buildings that share a network or physical location with higher-value corporate targets," he says.</p>





<p>"For example, it's entirely possible for someone to break in and disconnect measuring equipment used to detect leaks in a building or raise the temperature of monitored refrigerated counters in grocery stores, resulting in significant food waste. This in itself may not be so dangerous, but it shines a light on the challenges that need to be addressed," John-Helge continues.</p>



<p>"It is important to remember that no security solution is stronger than its weakest link, which often happens to be us humans. The area that we see the real estate industry has some way to go is traditional IT, such as network security and communication security."</p>

By integrating a smart energy meter from the energy supplier, VINCI gained access to a comprehensive load profile of energy consumption. The transparency and real-time status updates provided allowed for ongoing monitoring and evaluation.</p>



<p>The fast and easy installation process contributed to the project's scalability, with the entire system <strong>up and running within a day</strong>.</p>

<p>Looking ahead, the next step for this project is to realize the evaluated power load reduction. This is expected to result in additional cost reductions of approximately €3,000 per year, further enhancing the project's financial viability.</p>

<p>Not everyone is familiar with programming and scripting, making it challenging to get started. As a solution, we have included support for Blockly in the scripting editor, allowing users to create scripts using puzzle pieces.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-how-does-it-work">How does it work?</h2>



<p>Blockly uses visual blocks, or puzzle pieces if you wish, that link together to make writing code more manageable and visually more apparent. It can also be customized to generate code in any textual programming language. </p>



<p>The scripts are created by connecting blocks, each representing logic or a more extensive functionality. The editor works by dragging and dropping an interface from a block library to a workspace, which is then saved and used to generate the actual code. Blockly is currently available for Call, Looped, and Triggered scripts. This means you can customize your project design directly in the web interface to create toolbars, popups, text, graphics, and image buttons.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-a-clear-vision">A clear vision</h2>



<p>When working with Blockly, having a clear vision or goal of what you want the system to do and what result you want to get from the code, is essential.&nbsp;</p>



<p>A perfect example of when to use Blockly is for spot prices. You can program the system so that when the spot price reaches a specific limit, the system will turn off a pump to reduce the costs. You can then use the tags for exports or presentations without connecting every tag manually.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Scripting can be used both for reporting and to create automated background processing. Since not everyone knows programming and scripting, it might be a bit of a challenge to get started. For that reason, Web Port has implemented support for Blockly as part of the scripting editor, which gives the option to build scripts using puzzle pieces.</p>
